Clinical Overview

Shirodhara is one of Ayurveda's most famous relaxing therapies. The word is derived from Sanskrit: Shiro (head) and Dhara (flow). It involves a gentle, continuous pour of warm liquid (herbal oil, coconut water, buttermilk, or milk) onto the forehead, specifically targeting the third eye chakra.

Procedure & Guidelines

1. The client lies down comfortably on a wooden massage table (Droni).

2. A soft cotton band is tied above the eyebrows to protect the eyes from oil flow.

3. Warm herbalized sesame oil is poured into a suspended copper vessel with a small nozzle.

4. The oil stream is directed to swing slowly back and forth across the forehead for 40-50 minutes.

5. Ends with a light scalp massage.
